Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Copperfield Chimney Repair in San Antonio: What to Know First
Copperfield chimney repair in San Antonio usually means one of three things: a rusted-out top damper, a warped chimney cap, or water getting behind the chase cover and into the flue. We fix all three, and most Copperfield repairs run between $220 and $900 depending on which part failed and how much of it you have. You’ll get a written price before anyone picks up a tool, and the work is backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If you own a Copperfield fireplace or prefab chimney system and something’s off, call (254) 276-4116 and we’ll walk you through what to check before we even schedule the visit.
How Copperfield Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
Copperfield makes solid products. But San Antonio’s heat, humidity, and occasional hail do things to chimney components that other parts of the country never see. Here’s what we actually find on Copperfield systems in neighborhoods across Alamo Heights, Stone Oak, and Helotes, and what we do about it.
- Top dampers that won’t seal on Copperfield LD and GC series units. The cast lid warps over years of direct Texas sun, and the rubber gasket underneath turns brittle and cracks. That means hot air escapes in summer and rain finds its way down the flue in spring storms. We replace the gasket or the entire damper assembly, depending on how far the warping has gone. Most of these are under $350 to fix properly.
- Chimney caps with rust-through at the screen seam. Copperfield caps from the late 2000s and early 2010s used a stainless screen that’s fine, but the spot welds at the screen-to-hood connection are the failure point. Once those welds pop, the screen sags and birds get in. We see this constantly on Copperfield CC series caps. A new cap with riveted, not just welded, screen attachment solves it permanently.
- Chase covers leaking at the corners. This one isn’t unique to Copperfield, but we see it a lot on Copperfield fireplace installations from the 2005-2012 building boom. The original Chase cover was often a thin gauge steel and the corners collect water, rust through, and drip down onto the firebox below. We fabricate replacement covers in heavier gauge stainless or galvanized steel with a proper drip edge. If you see water staining on your ceiling near the fireplace, this is the first thing we check.
- Firebox refractory panels cracking on Copperfield direct-vent gas units. The side and rear panels are made of a cement-like refractory material. Thermal cycling from cold mornings to full-blast fires causes hairline cracks. Not dangerous at first, but if the crack widens or the panel starts crumbling, it needs replaced before it exposes the metal firebox shell. We stock common Copperfield panel sizes and can have less common ones within a week.
- Flue tile spalling inside Copperfield masonry chimneys on older homes. This one happens on Copperfield-built masonry fireplaces, which are common in San Antonio homes from the 1980s and 1990s. The clay flue tiles absorb moisture and, after enough hot-cold cycles, the inner face starts flaking off in chunks. That’s spalling, and the rough surface catches creosote faster than smooth tile, which raises fire risk. We address this with HeatShield cerfractory sealant or a DuraFlex stainless liner, depending on severity, and we’ll always show you the camera footage first.

Our Copperfield Chimney Repair Process
Here’s what happens when you book a Copperfield repair with us. No mystery windows, no “your tech will call you someday” runaround.
- 1
Call or book online. A live person answers 24/7. We ask what you’re seeing, make, model if you know it, and schedule a visit. You get a tracked arrival window, not a four-hour guess.
- 2
Diagnostic inspection with photos. Our background-checked, uniformed tech shows up, gets on the roof or into the firebox, and documents everything with a camera. You’ll see the cracked panel, the rusted cap, the warped damper gasket. Not our word for it. The photo.
- 3
Written price before work starts. Cory Mitchell built this company on handing customers a number before anyone touches a tool. We’ll tell you what failed, what it costs to fix, and what can safely wait. Nothing is recommended without evidence you’ve seen yourself.
- 4
Parts decision, explained plainly. Some Copperfield parts we source as OEM when it matters for fit or warranty. Other times a quality aftermarket part from a brand like Gelco does the same job for less. We’ll tell you the difference and let you choose. For liner work, we use DuraFlex systems because they hold up to San Antonio’s thermal swings.
- 5
The repair and the test. We do the work, then test it. Damper opens and seals. Cap is secure. No water penetration at the chase cover. We photograph the finished job too.
- 6
Digital invoice and written guarantee. You get an invoice you can pay from your phone, plus a written guarantee on every repair. If it fails within 365 days, we come back free. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it’s not promotional. It’s standing policy.

Why San Antonio Homeowners Call Hadley Chimney San Antonio for Copperfield Work
We’re not a manufacturer-authorized Copperfield dealer. We’re an independent Copperfield service provider, which means we’re free to tell you when an aftermarket part does the job better than OEM, and when it doesn’t. That honesty matters. We’ve been working on chimneys since 2003, and we’ve seen enough Copperfield systems in San Antonio to know which parts fail here and which ones don’t. Every repair comes with a written guarantee and a free second visit if it fails within 365 days. Every job includes The Relay Visibility Guarantee: live arrival tracking, before-and-after photo documentation, and a written price before work begins. We stock Copperfield-compatible parts and also work with DuraFlex liners, HeatShield repair compounds, and Gelco components, so we’re not limited to one parts channel. See the problem, understand the fix, then decide – that’s how it should work.
FAQs
It depends on the warranty terms and your specific unit, but as a general rule, using an independent contractor does not void a manufacturer warranty on parts that fail due to manufacturing defects. What can void coverage is using the wrong replacement part or an improper install. We’ll tell you when an OEM Copperfield part is the warranty-safe choice, and we document our work so you have a record if you ever need to file a claim.
In most cases, you only need to repair the failed component. A warped top damper doesn’t mean the whole fireplace is shot. We replace panels, caps, dampers, and chase covers individually all the time. The only situation that pushes toward a full unit replacement is severe firebox structural damage or a rusted-through chimney system that’s compromised throughout. And we’ll show you the photos before we make that call. Call (254) 276-4116 for a straight answer.
Common Copperfield parts like top damper gaskets, refractory panels, and chase covers we can usually source within a few business days, and many we keep in our San Antonio stock. Less common components, like specific CC series cap hoods or older GC series damper assemblies, may take up to a week. We’ll tell you the lead time at the quote stage so you’re not left wondering.
Once a year, no matter the brand. Copperfield doesn’t change that. What does change is what we look for: top damper seals on LD and GC series, screen welds on CC caps, chase cover corners, and refractory panel cracking on direct-vent units. Annual inspection catches these before they turn into leaks or chimney fires. Book your next sweep and inspection with a real person at (254) 276-4116.
A failed top damper or rusted chase cover lets water in. Water plus San Antonio’s freeze-thaw winters equals cracked masonry, damaged firebox panels, and eventually structural issues that cost thousands instead of hundreds. A sagging cap screen lets birds and squirrels nest, which blocks the flue and creates a carbon monoxide risk if you run the fireplace. None of these are hypothetical. They’re the most common calls we get. If something looks off, call (254) 276-4116 and we’ll take a look with a camera before anyone quotes a dollar.
