Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Sweep in San Antonio: What to Know First
DuraFlex chimney sweep in San Antonio typically costs $189 – $349, depending on what’s built up inside the liner and whether it’s a standard sweep or a sweep paired with a Level 2 camera inspection. We work as an independent DuraFlex service provider, not a manufacturer-authorized shop, which means we tell you what the liner actually needs rather than what pushes a replacement. Most DuraFlex sweeps are done the same day the camera shows us what we’re dealing with. If you own a home in San Antonio with a DuraFlex liner and it’s been more than a year since anyone looked inside it, call (254) 276-4116 and we’ll walk you through what’s involved.
How DuraFlex Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
- Creosote glazing inside smooth-wall liners. DuraFlex’s 316L stainless liners have a smooth interior that resists buildup better than corrugated liners, but San Antonio’s high-humidity shoulder seasons create condensation inside the flue that turns creosote (the flammable tar that collects from wood smoke) into a hard, glossy glaze. We see this most on DuraFlex 316L round liners in wood-burning fireplaces in Alamo Heights and Terrell Hills. Our fix is a rotary sweep with poly brushes rated for stainless, never steel, followed by a camera pass to confirm the glaze is gone without scratching the liner wall.
- Coupler loosening at DuraFlex Pro connections. The DuraFlex Pro series uses couplers to join liner sections, and years of San Antonio’s clay-heavy soil settling under slab foundations can shift the chimney enough to loosen those joints. The symptom you’ll notice is a faint rattle when wind hits the chimney cap, or a slow drop in draft. We tighten or replace the couplers during a sweep visit, then run a smoke test to confirm the joints seat properly.
- Tee snout blockage in DuraFlex aluminum liners. Homes with gas fireplaces or furnaces in San Antonio often run DuraFlex aluminum liners, and the tee snout at the bottom where the liner connects to the appliance collects soot and small debris faster than the rest of the system. A blocked tee snout shows up as a lazy flame or a unit that shuts off unexpectedly. We remove the tee cap, vacuum the snout, and scope it with a camera before putting everything back.
- Rain cap screen clogging on DuraFlex chimney covers. DuraFlex rain caps come with mesh screens to keep birds out, but San Antonio’s live oak pollen and cottonwood fluff plug those screens within a season or two. A clogged screen starves the fire of air and pushes smoke back into the room. During a sweep we pull the cap, clean or replace the screen, and check the cap’s fasteners for corrosion from our summer heat.
- Third-party parts mismatched to original DuraFlex components. A recurring issue we correct in San Antonio is a previous contractor pairing a DuraFlex liner with a knockoff cap or connector from a big-box store. The metal gauges don’t match, the fit is loose, and the result is often a whistling sound or a gap that leaks exhaust. We source genuine DuraFlex components where they’re available, and when a quality aftermarket part makes more sense for the budget, we tell you why and show you both options before any work starts.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Sweep Process
Here’s exactly what happens when you book a DuraFlex sweep with us in San Antonio.
- 1
You call, a person answers. No voicemail tree. We ask about your fireplace or appliance, the age of the home, and what you’re seeing: smoke spilling, strange odors, or just time for the annual service. We then book a window you can track live.
- 2
Arrival and visual check. Our technician arrives in a tracked window, uniformed and background-checked. We start outside, checking the cap, flashing, and crown, then inspect the firebox and damper from inside.
- 3
Camera inspection before the brush. We run a camera through the DuraFlex liner first. This tells us if there’s glaze, a loose coupler, or corrosion, and it gives you a baseline of your liner’s condition before anyone touches it. You see the same photos we see, on the spot.
- 4
The sweep, matched to the liner. We use brushes and tools appropriate for your DuraFlex material and diameter. Stainless gets poly brushes. Aluminum gets a gentler touch. The goal is clean without scratching.
- 5
Post-sweep camera pass and photo report. We run the camera again so you see the liner is clean, no glaze remains, and the connections are sound. You get before-and-after photos texted or emailed to you, plus a written report.
- 6
Written price, then payment. If we find something that needs repair, we show you the image, explain it in plain words, and give you a written price before any additional work. Nothing gets recommended without camera evidence you can see yourself. When you’re ready, you pay from a digital invoice link.

- Standard DuraFlex sweep: $189 – $279 for a single-flue fireplace or stove, including cap cleaning and a basic visual check.
- DuraFlex sweep with Level 1 inspection: $249 – $329. This is the annual standard for a wood-burning fireplace.

- Tee snout cleanout add-on: $75 – $125 when our scope finds buildup at a gas appliance connection.
- Coupler tightening or replacement during sweep: $40 – $120 per coupler, depending on diameter and access.
What moves the price is total flue height, creosote stage (powdered, flaky, or glazed), and how many appliance connections we’re servicing. Call (254) 276-4116 for an exact quote. Estimates are free, and the price we quote over the phone is the price you’ll see on the invoice.
Why San Antonio Homeowners Call Hadley Chimney San Antonio for DuraFlex Work
We’ve been cleaning and repairing chimneys since 2003, and we’ve spent years of that time on San Antonio rooftops from King William to Stone Oak. Cory Mitchell, our owner, learned the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and spent two decades working across the Southwest before putting down roots here. He built the company on one habit: texting customers a photo of what he actually found, before quoting anything. See the problem, understand the fix, then decide – that’s how it should work. Every repair we make carries a written guarantee and a 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right, with a free second visit if a repair fails. And because we also work with HeatShield ceramic repair compound and Gelco sealants, when a DuraFlex liner has a repair option that doesn’t require a full replacement, we can offer it. That’s the benefit of a shop that isn’t married to one brand. The Relay Visibility Guarantee is in effect on every job: live arrival tracking, before-and-after photos, and a written price before the brush comes out.
FAQs
No. Regular sweeping with brushes rated for your liner material is exactly what the warranty assumes you’re doing. The manufacturers we’ve worked with expect annual maintenance. The thing that voids warranties is neglect that leads to liner damage, or using steel brushes on a stainless liner. We use poly brushes on stainless DuraFlex liners specifically to keep that warranty-safe. If you’re unsure about your specific warranty terms, call (254) 276-4116 and we’ll walk you through what to look for.
Once a year if you burn wood regularly, even with a stainless liner. San Antonio’s humidity swings create the condensation that turns creosote into a hard glaze, and glaze is harder to remove the longer it sits. Gas appliances with DuraFlex aluminum liners can go two years in many cases, but we still recommend an annual visual check. Call (254) 276-4116 and we’ll give you an honest recommendation based on your actual burn habits, not a script.
That’s the entire point of what we do. We run a camera through the liner before any recommendation is made, and you see the footage. If the liner has perforation, deep pitting, or separation at joint connections, we’ll show you. If it has a decade of life left, we’ll tell you that too. Nothing gets recommended without camera evidence you can see for yourself. Call (254) 276-4116 to schedule a Level 2 inspection and see what your liner actually looks like inside.
A DuraFlex liner is a full stainless reline, typically selected when the original clay tile flue is cracked, spalled, or undersized for a new appliance. HeatShield is a ceramic coating applied inside the existing flue that restores a smooth, insulated surface without the full reline cost. We work with both, and the choice comes down to the condition of the existing flue, the appliance you’re venting, and your budget. We’ll show you the camera footage of your current flue and give you both price points so you can decide with real information.
We keep common DuraFlex couplers, caps, and screens on our trucks for the sizes we see most in San Antonio homes, usually 6-inch and 7-inch diameter liners. For less common sizes or specialty components, sourcing takes a few days. If we need to order something, we’ll tell you before we ever touch the liner, and you’ll get a written price and a timeline before any commitment.
